Join us on a special journey through the touching story of Home of Hope. Started by a man who faced the tough realities of being an orphan at just 14/15 years old, the story of this institution is filled with strength, faith, and divine help.
The foundational moment that propelled Home of Hope into existence was marked by the first generous donation of $6 (MK100) in 1998, — an act of kindness that resonated with the founder's vision.
Rev Thomson John Chipeta, a 95 year old retired pastor, founded Home of Hope in 1998, an educational charitable institution inspired from his personal journey as an orphan.
In the year 1950, financial constraints abruptly interrupted the education of our founder. This period marked one of the most painful memories—a heart-wrenching experience of being expelled from school due to unpaid fees. However, amidst these challenges, a divine twist unfolded in 1957, guiding him back to Theological College for a transformative four-year pastoral training.
This period of pastoral training not only equipped him with theological knowledge but also nurtured a profound understanding of compassion and service. These formative years laid the foundation for the mission that would unfold later, marking the beginning of an extraordinary chapter in the founder's life.
Ordained as a pastor in 1961 at Mchinji Presbyterian Church, Rev T. J. Chipeta's journey extended to Zimbabwe in 1964. This marked the commencement of 15 years dedicated to missionary service—a period that broadened perspectives, deepened faith, and set the stage for the founder's subsequent endeavors.
The year 1978 brought an important moment, prompting a year-long pursuit of theological studies at the University of the North in South Africa.
The significant year 1980 witnessed a return to Malawi, specifically to the Church of his ordination in 1961. Following a dedicated holding, retirement came in 1991. Unexpectedly, in 1993/04, the Synod summoned him to serve as a retired pastor—a call that would prove to be instrumental in the unfolding of Home of Hope's story.
This period of unexpected service demonstrated the founder's unwavering commitment to a higher calling. It was a time when retirement became a platform for a new beginning—a beginning that would shape the destiny of countless lives in the years to come
In the midst of these transitions, God bestowed upon him a powerful vision—to build an orphanage. However, the path was fraught with challenges, including the need for governmental approval and financial constraints. Despite everything, he remained to an unshakable trust in divine providence (Jeremiah 33:3 and Philippians 4:19).
The vision to build an orphanage wasn't merely a personal endeavor; it was a divine calling to provide a home for those who had faced similar adversities. It was a mission rooted in faith—a faith that transcended conventional expectations and directed the founder into uncharted territories of hope and compassion.
To breathe life into this visionary mission, a Board of Trustees was formed, and the dream was shared with family and friends. This collaborative effort marked the beginning of Home of Hope as a collective endeavor, rooted in shared values and a commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of orphans and vulnerable children.
In a defining moment, the Government, after an interview, granted approval, acknowledging the unconventional yet faith-rooted approach to building an orphanage.
Today, Home of Hope stands as a living testament to the unwavering faith of its founder and the collaborative efforts that shaped its journey. This narrative is more than a historical account—it's a beacon of hope.
It emphasizes the profound belief that a vision, built in faith, can win over challenges, creating a haven for those in need. Home of Hope isn't just an institution; it's a living testament to the transformative power of faith, compassion, and the unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
